The University of Cambridge - 800 this year - has recently established a link with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, funded by the government, and is now playing a leading role in breaking down the barriers between science and business. Its growing strength in technology transfer has helped to stimulate the “Cambridge Phenomenon”, encouraging international businesses such as BP, Microsoft, Rolls Royce, and AstraZeneca to invest in research in Cambridge.

Cambridge research produced the discovery of the electron, the structure of DNA, and many other breakthroughs that underpin high technology businesses today.
